Ziegelwerk Eder

The 38 cm thick brick is characterised by an optimal combination of static strength, noise insulation and energy efficiency. The mineral wool filling enables a high level of thermal insulation despite the brick’s internal bridges. The filled brick provides a healthy indoor climate with pleasant surface temperature of walls and improves the properties of masonry buildings.

Ziegelwerk Eder received the "EnergieGenie" innovation prize in 2017 for its new product: the Eder V50 with integrated insulation material (U=0.12 W/m²K). The mineral wool flakes bear the "RAL" seal of quality for mineral wool products that are thermal-insulating, non-combustible and sound-absorbing. The brick casing was also awarded the international quality label "natureplus" for sustainable and high-quality building materials.

In recent years, Ziegelwerk Eder has invested around 3.5 million euros in research and facilities for its new solid brick. The specially optimised brick shell is filled with pure mineral wool flakes without any additives or binders. The brick is available with a U-value of 0.12 W/m²K (50 cm thick) or a U-value of 0.16 W/m²K (38 cm thick).

After an 11-month construction period, Ziegelwerk Eder opened a new research centre and laboratory in Peuerbach (investment 1.5 million Euro). The energy efficient building, which contains 1,800 m² of modern office and meeting rooms, was built with the company's 50 cm-thick bricks. Eder expects this investment to contribute to a boost in investments and further developments in energy-efficient bricks.

The Energiewerkstatt office building in Munderfing, designed by ARCH+MORE, was recently opened and now offers pace for 47 employees. The main structure was erected with Eder blocks (U-value 0.15 W/m²K). 100% of the buildings energy demand is supplied with renewable energy sources: automatic pellet boiler, thermal solar collectors, PV installation and 20,5 kWh lithium battery for electricity storage. The result is a "plus-energy" building that has an energy performance indicator of 9.1 kWh/m²a and offers comfortable working space.

The Eder group operates brick plants in Peuerbach and Weibern, five plants for ready-mixed concrete in Upper Austria, Systembau Eder (precast concrete) and its own vehicle fleet. The company is 100% Eder family-owned and employs around 250 people. At an international level, Eder possesses a brick plant in Freital, near Dresden (D), and production facility for concrete lintels and brick ceilings near České Budějovice (CZ)
